The First European encounter between August Bournonville, Enrico Cecchetti and the Escuela Bolera will take place at the school in Highgate and we are delighted to be able to host this unique event in association with the Auguste Vestris Society of Paris.
Bringing together Flemming Ryberg, principal of the Royal Danish Theatre, Copenhagen, Richard Glasstone, Fellow of the I.S.T.D. Cecchetti Method and former senior teacher at the Royal Ballet School and Dame Marina de Grut, president of the Spanish Dance Society, this event will offer classes, repertoire, film showings and discussions to advanced students, student teachers, teachers and dance aficionados over the weekend. The themes of the event centre around theatricality and Spanish dance and will culminate in a Round Table discussion on Sunday afternoon in which it is hoped that participants will be inspired by the classes and presentations of the weekend.
The event will start at 7pm on Friday evening 13th April with a drinks reception at the URC introducing the guest teachers, followed by a film presentation by Flemming Ryberg. On Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th April the classes, talks, film showings and discussions will run from 10.30am-6.30pm.

HBS Charity donations 2011
Soon after the news of the terrible effects of Japan's earthquake and Tsunami reached London, Highgate Ballet School mums Mikiko Nagahiro, Yasuko Yamaguchi and Etsuko Katsura decided to help raise money for victims of the catastrophe. Over several weeks in the summer term they made and brought into the school countless delicious cupcakes selling them to pupils and parents and raising 202.53. The money was given to Katsumi Morimoto, general manager of the Inoue Ballet Foundation in Tokyo who has taken it back with her to Japan to donate directly to the Red Cross.
On behalf of Highgate Ballet School we would like to thank these amazing ballet mums for this heartfelt gesture and continued support!
In July 2011 following the successful end of year recitals at Highgate and Wood Street, more than £400 was raised for local children's charities including icandance run by former HBS teacher Juliet Diener who runs classes for children with special needs in Swiss Cottage.
